My main case example is myself, considering I am currently in an esports community for the game League of Legends at Rutgers and also involved in servers across the country and world. These communities are everywhere, big and small, and the college experience i have with connecting with gamers in New Jersey has helped developed relationships that are good friends and some relationships have offered help with school, jobs and other resources. The community brought from online to in person there is both in a club like this, where some meet up and still play online and some other prefer online meeting and playing. These friendships built are possibilities for future jobs, friendships, relationships, etc. This is an example of how social capital provides individual benefits whether that is looking for happiness with friends or future possibilities.

Virtual Social capital, does it provide as much as regular social capital, what can you get from it and what relationships bring as a community online. Bridging and bonding connections are two great terms that come from Trepte, where bridge is the possibility of finding relationships with one another in a community, and bonding is making that relationship stronger based on experiences with one another. Using terms from my own experience of gaming called "meta" to show there are terms and words defined by the community. Social capital is the ability to have relationships and what those relationships can do for individuals inside the community. Whether this be developing skill set, future job, friendly relationships, etc. Virtual Social capital is not as beneficial with over the entire world but when relating this to college relationships, virtual social capital and social capital is combined with online and real life.

RQ and 5 sources

OLD RQ       How college is not just an education it is an experience that is costly, is it worth going to school to be in student debt, or only worth it to build connections? When going to college, financial situations and family relationships shape this mindset of going to college and how that can affect an experience at college. Is it worth putting the risk of the student feeling like a burden to go to college without a healthy family relationship? NEW RQ     How can social connections with college bring happiness to an individual and build a community for themselves along with going to school? Gaming is one community that builds social capital for an individual, and bringing two college and gaming together to find similar students and interests in one place for a community. Why community building is important for individual happiness and finding connections with others? 5 sources:  Arampatzi, Efstratia, et al. “Social Network Sites, Individual Social Capital and Happiness.” Jour
